The WTA Tour continues this week with the Miami Open and Kwese Sports will again have all the action LIVE.

This hardcourt tournament is one of the longest-running on the tennis circuit, with the 2017 edition being the 32nd since it was established by former player Butch Buchholz in 1985.

Traditionally, it has been an unexpected tune-up for the clay court season as the extreme heat in Key Biscayne and the slowness of the Tennis Center at Crandon Park courts lends itself to baseline rallies.

From a playing perspective, Serena Williams is the record winner of the Miami Open with eight titles. However, the legendary player will be missing with a left knee injury as will reigning champion Victor Azarenka (a three-time winner in fact) who is still on ‘maternity leave’ from the circuit and Petra Kvitova whose recovery from an home-intruder attack continues.

However, the rest of the top women’s players will be on show and give the tournament a ‘Grand Slam’ feel with a possible winner difficult to predict.

Two-Slam winner Angelique Kerber heads the 96-strong field, with Karolina Pliskova, Simona Halep and Dominika Cibulkova filling the other top seeds.

Among the many players aiming to trip them up, there’s 2012 winner Agnieszka Radwańska, Svetlana Kuznetsova (who won all the way back in 2006), Caroline Wozniacki, Timea Bacsinszky and the irrepressible Venus Williams who won a record 22 consecutive singles matches at the tournament between 1998-2002 during which she won the title three times.
