NBA Playoffs

16:00 SAST | 06 Apr 2017

The NBA regular season is coming to a close in around a week’s time and 11 of the 16 teams that participate in the NBA Playoffs have booked their places already.

The Golden State Warriors have clinched the number one seed in the Western Conference, and overall, after they beat the Phoenix Suns and the San Antonio Spurs surprisingly lost to the LA Lakers on Wednesday night. The Spurs (2nd) are also in the Playoffs out West and will be joined by the Houston Rockets (3rd), Utah Jazz (4th), LA Clippers (5th) Oklahoma City Thunder (6th) and Memphis Grizzlies (7th).

In the Eastern Conference the Cleveland Cavaliers lead the way after their win over the Boston Celtics (2nd) on Wednesday. The Toronto Raptors (3rd) and Washington Wizards (4th) are the only other Eastern Conference teams who have confirmed their involvement in the Playoffs.

There are still a host of permutations that need to play out, especially with seeding in the conferences a cause for concern.  In the Western Conference there is one Playoff spot available with the Portland Trail Blazers in pole position but they have the Denver Nuggets breathing down their necks. In the Eastern Conference there are four places still open, currently in contention are the Milwaukee Bucks (5th), Atlanta Hawks (6th), Chicago Bulls (7) and Miami Heat (8). Outside the top eight are the Indiana Pacers, Charlotte Hornets and Detroit Pistons who could all make it into the postseason. There is a lot happening in the NBA and the season end will be thrilling.
