Sky News (Ch 715) named News Channel of the Year at the 2018 Royal Television Society Awards

From politics and royals to natural disasters and terror attacks, Sky News (Ch 715) is at the fore-front of topical and breaking news - letting us know what is happening around the world, around the clock.

Sky News (Ch 715) has recently been named News Channel of the Year at the 2018 Royal Television Society (RTS) Awards and it's not the first time that they have picked up this prestigious award, it's the 12th! The Royal Television Society is a charity organisation that promotes the the artistry and discipline of television. Their annual award ceremonies are the pinnacle of the broadcasting industry and celebrate its contributor's achievements. According to the RTS, Sky News "offered gripping and brave coverage of breaking news around the world - but added an additional layer of longer-form analysis, and well-judged and compelling campaigning" [https://www.rts.org.uk/]. 

Sky News was up against some tough competition but came out on top against BBC News Channel and CNN International. So a warm congratulations to both Sky News and the other exceptional nominees! Kwesé TV is delighted to have these world-class news channels on offer!

Sky News also snagged the Breaking News award for its coverage of the Manchester Arena terror attack. On 22 May 2017, a bomb was detonated as people were leaving an Ariana Grande concert at the Manchester Arena in the UK. 23 people lost their lives and over 500 were injured. Many of the affected were young children. The channel was celebrated for its timeliness in delivering the news, its sensitivity in dealing with such a horrifying incident whilst constantly delivering context along with each new snippet of evidence found.

Sky News will also be covering the Royal Wedding next month. On 19 May 2018, Prince Harry will marry Meghan Markel, a well-known American actress. Prince Harry is the son of Diana, Princess of Wales and Charles, Prince of Wales and the grandson of Queen Elizabeth II.
